Major Healthcare Data Breach Exposes Over One Million Records
On February 9, 2024, Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC) disclosed a substantial data breach affecting over one million individuals. The breach has compromised sensitive information, including Social Security numbers and medical records, leading CHC to offer 24 months of identity theft protection to those impacted. This incident underscores a troubling trend in the healthcare sector, where data breaches have become increasingly common and damaging. In addition to the breach at CHC, Lurie Children's Hospital suffered a ransomware attack from the Rhysida group, which is demanding $3.6 million to restore access to critical systems. The recent Microsoft Patch Tuesday addressed 73 vulnerabilities, two of which are actively exploited zero-days. Meanwhile, Fortinet has released patches for critical vulnerabilities in FortiOS, including CVE-2024-21762, which has been noted as exploited in the wild. Organizations must prioritize security measures to safeguard sensitive data against such threats.
